Yesterday, the entire capstone program at Rutland High School got together for an activity called speed dating. This activity consisted of rotating around the classroom sharing our project ideas with our peers. We had four minutes to exchange our ideas and our suggestions with each fellow classmate. While exchanging my solar project ideas with some of my friends, I received some helpful suggestions to further enhance my project. I could look into how solar power affects Vermont's economy. I could also promote making one's own electricity because with solar energy, after the initial installation investment, it can generate profit for the consumer. One friend also mentioned looking into windmills and comparing their efficiency and profitability to solar energy. A couple friends also provided me with contact information for their parents who work at Green Mountain Power. Finally, one friend mentioned looking into changes in elevation and how it affects the productivity of a solar panel. Basically, is it more efficient to have solar panels in a valley or on a mountain?
Therefore, this speed dating exercise was extremely helpful for me. It opened my eyes to a few great ideas that could further benefit my research project. I think that everyone benefited from this exercise because it allowed us to collaborate all of our ideas in a variety of areas. Definitely an advocate for "speed dating"...
